Hey Y’all,
Today I wanted to share some super quick ideas to update your living space for under $50! Often times, people feel like they have to make expensive, BIG changes to their home in order to upgrade. But home improvements don’t have to break the bank or leave you sleep-deprived! Let’s look at a few you can do this weekend and still have time for that Sunday brunch.
PAINT
You don’t have to paint the whole house and spend a small fortune! Start with one room, one wall at a time. Focus on one area. Want extra savings? Check out your local paint store’s throwaway pile of paints! They are often heavily discounted and we’ve found some of our favorite colors there! Want EVEN MORE SAVINGS? Paint an accent wall or pattern/symbol/shape along one wall. This way, you are only using a small portion of what you would to cover the entire room but making a huge statement. It can serve as art in the room and create a dramatic effect for the price.
LIGHTING
Ok, here’s the “light bulb” moment…ready!?
Lighting CAN change everything! At least, everything in your room and home! We want you to think outside the lighting box and get creative! One way we like to do this quickly and easily is with a dimmer switch! A dimmer switch tends to get forgotten but there’s no denying that it makes a room a little “fancier” and always receives an “ohhh” and “ahhhh”.
Another way, is with under cabinet lighting or even track lights along a walkway or hallway. Choose something inconspicuous that people would only notice at night when it’s needed. It’s a great way to leave people talking about your attention to detail (and we won’t tell how affordable it was)! And if those lighting ideas aren’t for you or you’ve done them by now, don’t forget, sometimes a room just needs a good old, floor or table lamp! It’s one way to change the entire style of a room for well under $50. You can check local marketplace ads or a resale shop to score huge savings when it comes to lighting.
PAINT (Again?)
Nope! It’s not a typo or mistake. We did list paint in the top spot and here. Why? Because we want you to save some of that paint you got for the above accent wall for a little…art!
That’s right! Take your leftover paint or the real throwaway pile (we see free paint ads and friends giving it away all the time) and buy a canvas or three.. Get some drop cloths and brushes from the dollar store and GET TO HAVING FUN! Let yourself enjoy the process! It may help to plan a general idea out if that’s your personality but really, you don’t have to. If you’re using some leftover paint from a different room or project, you will be amazed at how much the free, homemade art just flows through and brings it all together! Doing a kids’ room? Let them get in on the fun! Bedroom? Make it a date night, and get messy!
This isn’t one of our long lists, but we didn’t want it to be! We want to reiterate that this is easy, simple, and quick.
We love having long “to do” lists and renovation projects (it’s kind of a problem…!) but we know that it can be met with anxiety and overwhelm. Stop comparing or wishing for the perfect home and Pinterest-worthy room and make it yours NOW. Doing small, simple updates that make a noticeable difference will motivate and inspire you to keep going, get even more creative, and have a space that brings you true joy and inspires purpose!
Happy Updating!
Love y’all!
